The National Arts Centre is committed to supporting and developing opportunities for Inuit musicians and ‘Southern’ visiting musicians to teach and share their music in schools and communities throughout Nunavut.
The Program aims to support comprehensive, multi-year programming in each community, based on the following five principles:
Music Education for Children and Youth
Building Capacity Among Educators and Musicians
Music-Making in the Community
Preserving and Celebrating Local Culture
Showcasing Northern Artists
The Friends of the NAC Orchestra have contributed funds and musical instruments, including violins, accordions and digital pianos to this on-going program.
